Yamaha virago starter not engaging

Yamaha Virago Starter Not Engaging, Mine was intermittent at Customer: I have a 2007 Yamaha Virago 250, and I'm not getting any power to the lights, starter, or anything else; the entire bike is Starter spinning but not engaging flywheel. Previous owner said it possibly needed a starter and needed some carb work. I fixed i'm trying to fix my buddy's virago and i need a little advice. I have starting issues.
